Galaxy Note II announcement expected August 29

A successor to the first-gen Samsung Galaxy Note (pictured) is expected to be unveiled on ...

Last week Samsung started sending members of the press invitations to another one of its famous "Unpacked" events. We say "famous" because the last "Unpacked" event, which took place in May, was where the company announced the Galaxy S III. This new "Unpacked" event is scheduled to take place on August 29th in Berlin, which just so happens to coincide with the start of the 2012 IFA conference. IFA is where Samsung announced the first generation Galaxy Note in September 2011.
When we first saw that 5.3-inch beast phone we had our doubts about its sales prospects, but it turns out that we couldn't have been more wrong. As of June 2012 Samsung says that it has sold over 7 million Notes. Seeing as how the South Korean firm likes to refresh its products on a yearly cycle, people have already started speculating that this upcoming "Unpacked" event is where we'll see the Note II.
According to a Samsung spokesman who spoke to Reuters, the people have guessed correctly; we're going to see the Note II in Berlin. As for the exact specifications of the device, those are still a mystery, but rumor has it that the Note II will have a 5.5 inch display and the same quad core chip that's inside the company's 2012 flagship, the Galaxy S III.
Considering that Apple is rumored to be unveiling the next iPhone in early September, the timing of the Note II launch couldn't have been better planned. Expect it to steal a lot of attention over the coming months.
